Whenever I’m out of the city, I like to detour to antique markets. I’ve picked up treasures in the Ottawa valley, Huntsville, Innisfil and even South Carolina and Virginia!

Test. Test. Test. And test again. This is the cardinal rule of a candle maker. With extensive testing, I know which wick will work with certain vessels and how each vessel, according to their material, will react to heat.

Like any other candle, you should let the first burn go for 2-3 hours or until the melt pool has reached the vessel’s outer edge. This will set the maximum diameter of the melt pool and will minimize tunneling.

Check @giftedhomestudio on Instagram for the pinned video, or here are the basic steps.
When you candle has put itself out, there will be a little wax left at the bottom.
Fill the cooled glass jar with boiling water and leave overnight. The wax will liquify, float to the top and re-solidify there.
The next day, remove the top layer of wax by pushing in slightly and breaking it in half. Discard the water.
Remove the wick with a spoon. Remove the label and wash the jar with warm soapy water.
You’re done!
